I’m Yoruba man from Nigeria – Ex-Togo international Adebayor

Emmanuel Adebayor, the ex-Arsenal forward, has revealed that despite representing Togo in international football during his active career, he identifies himself as Nigerian.

In a recent interview with TVC, the 39-year-old seasoned striker shared that he hails from the Yoruba ethnic group in Nigeria, even though he was born and raised in Togo.

In his words, “My father’s name is Adeyi Adebayor, and my mother’s name is Alice Eniola Adekanye. So, I am a pure Yoruba man. I was just born and raised in Togo, but I am fully from Nigeria.”

Adebayor, a former African Player of the Year, visited Nigeria to take part in a special match organized by African football legends in honor of Austin Jay Jay Okocha, the former Super Eagles captain, who recently celebrated his 50th birthday.
