EPL: Why I picked Reece James as new Chelsea captain – Pochettino

Chelsea’s manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has named Reece James as the new captain of the team, stepping into the role previously held by Cesar Azpilicueta, who departed Stamford Bridge this summer to join Atletico Madrid in Spain.

During Chelsea’s pre-season tour, James donned the captain’s armband, and now, as an academy graduate, he assumes this responsibility on a permanent basis.

“This decision has been made jointly by myself and the club, and we are genuinely delighted that Reece will lead the side this season. He sets a great example, showcasing his commitment and dedication to Chelsea, which has been evident throughout the pre-season. He proudly led the team during our summer tour, and he’s ready to embrace the challenge of guiding our squad with his unique approach and ideas,” Pochettino commented on the appointment.
