Premier League legend Alan Shearer has expressed his belief that Liverpool will feel embarrassed by the apparent rejection of Moises Caicedo in favor of a move to Chelsea this summer.
Initially, it seemed that Caicedo was on his way to Anfield, with Liverpool reportedly agreeing to a British record £111 million deal with Brighton.
However, the Ecuador international made it clear to Liverpool that he preferred a move to Chelsea, having already agreed on personal terms with the Blues earlier in the summer.
As a result of this latest development, Liverpool is reportedly prepared to withdraw their interest in Caicedo. It’s yet to be seen whether Chelsea will match the £111 million bid that Brighton had accepted from Liverpool on Friday.
Despite previously making bids for Caicedo in the range of £60-80 million, Chelsea is expected to make an improved offer to secure the 21-year-old’s signature.
Shearer shared his thoughts on the transfer saga concerning Caicedo, stating on The Rest Is Football podcast, “It’s pretty embarrassing for Liverpool if that is the case. They have agreed a deal for £111m and then all of a sudden the player has said, ‘no thanks, I don’t fancy coming to you, I am going to London instead’.
