Buhari commissions N1bn TETFund projects in Ekiti varsities

President Muhammadu Buhari has inaugurated six projects sponsored by

the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) in Ekiti State, across three universities. The commissioned projects include a vocational education workshop at Bamidele Olumilua University of Education Science and Technology Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI), a twin lecture theatre and medical ward for the University Health Centre in Ekiti State University Ado-Ekiti, and a lecture theatre block for the Faculty of Science at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE).

Represented by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Niyi Adebayo, President Buhari commended the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sonny Echono, and his team for their effective efforts in supporting the development of public tertiary education in Nigeria. The president emphasized the administration’s commitment to providing infrastructure and facilities for globally competitive institutions, recognizing education as a critical factor for socio-economic development.

The president highlighted the federal government’s investment through TETFund, including over N600 million provided for 155 lecturers from BOUESTI to pursue master’s and Ph.D. programs. He acknowledged the vice chancellor, Professor Victor Adeoluwa, for the university’s developmental strides.

In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sunny Echono, emphasized the agency’s commitment to efficient management and successful execution of projects funded by public funds. He highlighted TETFund’s allocation of funds to various tiers of beneficiaries in line with the agency’s mandate, promoting equity and adherence to enabling laws.

Echono urged the management of the institutions to ensure proper usage and maintenance of the newly commissioned projects for the benefit of future generations. Professor Adeoluwa, the VC of BOUESTI, expressed gratitude to the federal government and TETFund for their support and emphasized the importance of the new facilities in advancing vocational training among staff and students.

The projects commissioned by President Buhari and supported by TETFund aim to enhance teaching, learning, and academic standards in the universities while contributing to the overall development of Nigeria’s education sector.
