Beach Volleyball: Nigeria wins silver, qualify for 2023 World Championship

Nigeria’s women’s volleyball team secured a silver medal at the 2023 CAVB U21 Beach Volleyball Championship in Morocco. They played an intense match against the host country, Morocco, ultimately losing 2-1 (13-21, 21-15, 18-16) in a thrilling contest.

Nigeria started strongly, winning the first set with a score of 21-13 in under 20 minutes. However, Morocco, spurred on by their home crowd, rallied to claim victory in the second set.

In the third set, Morocco led until the 14th point, but Nigeria managed to tie the score at 14-14. Nigeria briefly took the lead at 16-15 before Morocco secured three crucial points to emerge as champions in the women’s category.

Despite the loss, Nigeria’s women’s volleyball team secured a spot in the 2023 World Championship, a testament to their performance and determination.

John Iwerima, the head coach of Nigeria’s team for the tournament, praised his players for their efforts, emphasizing their chemistry and potential to compete against top teams.

Additionally, Nigeria’s men’s beach volleyball team finished fifth in the competition, ensuring that both the men’s and women’s teams have qualified for the 2023 FIVB U21 World Beach Volleyball Championship in Thailand in November. This achievement highlights their success and bright future in the sport.
